Gujarat
The state were Gandhi was born

Gujarat is the Westernmost of the Indian states bordering both Pakistan and the sea. On the Pakistan border is the desert Rann of Kachchh situated. Two bays of the Indian Ocean in shelter of hard wind gave the state a benefit in trade through thousands of years. Diu, Daman, and Surat are places along the coast where Portugal and England early established colonial activities.

In Gujarat is a long tradition of textile production, especially in the "Manchester of India", Ahmedabad. Mohandas K Gandhi, "Mahatma Gandhi", was born in Porbandar at the sea. His ashram, Sabarmati Ashram, from where he was active during some periods of his life is situated outside Ahmedabad.

The Gir forest in the South is the last refuge of the Asian lion and in Rann of Kachchh you can still find the rare Indian wild ass. Gujarat is also a good place if you want to see camel races.
