S*Poo Nai's Norwegian forest cats from a Swedish cattery with Indian names Aims |
| Our first Norwegian Forest Cat, EC Gefjon Balder, moved to our house in 1996. Our mongrel cat, Fabian, quite similar to a wegie, was already established at the time. The ambition was that Balder, or Saddam as we call him, should keep Fabben company. Saddam should attend a cat show once, only for us to have the bizar experience to see adult people competing in beauty with their cats. Saddam's excellent results was however not planned. Saddam became Best Juvenile Total on the exhibition and I was stucked. Many times I have regretted this, on my way home from a factory area 50 km from the civilisation, and without a car. But as many times I have been walking home happy after a successful cat show. |
| For a long time, cat shows with Saddam was satisfactory enough, but gradually, the wish for kittens increased. So, during Summer 1997, S*Frostnattens Zita a black tortoisetabby and white weige moved to our house. Zita is an excellent cat in many respects, but she is quite small, which has caused some worry. Zita and Balder has got two litters together. Zita was neutered in the summer 2000 and Balder just before Christmas the same year. |
| In the Summer 1998 I got my first litter. Size, type, expression and temper are the bases for my cattery. In my opinion, heavy demands should be made on cats used for breeding. The mangement of the breed is a responsibility for all breeders, and the cats available should be used in the best possible way for the breed. This includes to find out the shortage in the cats and evaluate combinations or if the cats should be used for breeding at all. It is a pure disservice to the hobby to use cats with deficiences for breeding. |
| In the same way I make great demands on the buyers of the kittens from our cattery. My responsibility does not end when the kittens pass the age of 12 weeks and change owner. For me it is important that the cats will get a good home also in the long term. I want to sell my cats to people who loves and take care of their cat , also if the consequence is that the cat is not used for breeding nor attend any cat shows. I don't plan to take more than 1-2 litters per year. Each kitten has its right of my entire attention while growing up. It is also very important for me that my kittens are healthy. |
| The name of my cattery, Poo Nai, means cat in tamil, a language spoken in South India and Northern Sri Lanka. I have spent some time in India, and sometimes I miss the vagabond life. But, travelling around in India for several months is, however, not possible to combine with a cattery. I can only recall the atmosphere of India while giving the kittens names after Indian places, gods, and phenomenons. |
| During 1998 to 2000 my cattery has been extended by three additional females and one male. The first addition was GIC Torvmyra´s Silver Emmeli, a black tortoise silver mackerel tabby girl, who immigrated to Sweden in March 1998. She is a really large female with fantastic temper and nice coat quality. She and Saddam had a very promising litter in the summer of 1999. We have also kept a female from Emmelis first litter, IC S*Poo Nai´s Bharat Purr. She got her first litter February 2001. In the spring of 1999 we bought IC S*Pax´Allis Blaah, a blue mackerell tabby and white female. From her first litter, with EC Rockringens Led Zeppelin, we have kept our becoming stud, IC S*Poo Nai´s Delhi Dhobi, blue classical tabby and white. Autumn 2002 our new female, S*Just Catnap´s Jackpot Jade, blacktortie-mackerell and white, arrived to the cattery. She has also EC S*Rockringens Led Zeppelin as father. Spring 2003 we will also welcome S*Tassajara´s Bavaria, Blacktortiespotted and white. Her father is EC MHorrses Whiskey, whom we have used as stud with success in our cattery. |
